By the great interest on the part of 2 very dedicated City Clerks who
made special efforts to
take notes and began collecting news items of the growth and progress
of the “People City. Never
ending kudos and recognition go to Susan Armstrong
and Helen Lynott. The
die was cast to find a person who could and would create with the help
of pioneers and new people to organize a unique Historical Society that
would record the Founding and progress of a city in the Northwest corner
of Broward County. Fl.
The purpose of the society is to preserve the past and the coming events
of the future from
Business and Philanthropical people helping with monetary contributions
, or volunteer workers for the Society’s endeavor to be an information
center to the interested public of this unique City of Parkland.
The city was founded by Bruce B. Blount the land owner, in the year of
1963 and had his
documents chartered and covenants recorded at the State Capital in Tallahassee
Florida. on August 13, 1963. Description of the original parameters of
the city encompassed 360 acres to be sold to people as Agricultural lands
for the raising of food stuffs. animal husbandry, agricultural related
services, and nursery goods. To this day that intent remains possible
in the AE-1 and AE-2 zoned areas.
Our Mission
The group’s purpose is to collect and catalog
all historic artifacts, written accounts, oral history, folk-life, and
any memorabilia relating to the City of Parkland.
The group aims to compile information so that it will be accessible to
the public through historic displays, educational seminars, via the Internet
and eventually Parkland’s own Museum.
Preserving The Past
The Historical Society of Parkland is dedicated to preserving local traditions
and providing opportunities for the community to learn about Parkland’s
heritage.
The society’s goal is to educate the public, both children and adults,
regarding local history and preservation.
